Happy Monday everyone! I have so many amazing products to tell you about that I wasn’t actually planning on reviewing this one this week. However, I had a chat with a friend yesterday who had exactly the same experience as me with this product so I wanted to inform you all about it now. It’s another BB Cream but this time from a Drug Store brand.
I don’t know about you but Garnier’s BB Cream is everywhere. I have ads for it on Facebook, I see it on the TV all the time and when I go to Superdrug it’s right next to the till. As Superdrug had a really good promotion (I think it was half off at the time but it’s now £2.50 off) I thought I’d give it a go. I bought the light colour on an impulse and was fairly excited when I got home.
I’ll go through the pros first before I do the cons.
The cream itself is very dense but spreads and blends really easily so you don’t need excessive amounts. It did minimise my pores, evened out my skin tone and hid the odd blemish (at first I had barely any) and provided a fairly even base to apply the rest of my makeup. My skin did look a little smoother and my makeup didn’t dry out as much throughout the day.
Now for the cons… hold on to your hats.
Let’s tackle the colour first. As you may know I am ridiculously fair. I have a slight olive tint to my skin that makes it look darker than it actually is but I generally need the lightest product going. Garnier’s Light BB Cream was not this. Though it did blend down it still made my skin look a bit dirty and I needed my foundation over the top to make my skin colour look anything like my neck/décolletage. It also had a bit of an odd tint to it – like almost a bronzer.
The cream itself sets in the tube really quickly. Between each usage (roughly 24 hours) there would be a really thick, crusty layer of product around the nozzle and I would have to discard some product before use. This can only be a bad omen.
The texture on the skin is odd to say the least. I felt as though I had a layer of plastic on my face and my skin felt a little suffocated. I honestly couldn’t wait to get my makeup off each time I used it.
Now the big one… I had the biggest breakout imaginable. I take really good care of my skin and I cleanse, tone, moisturise, I use facemasks, I don’t leave makeup on my skin for a second longer than necessary so imagine my shock and disappointment when my face was covered in pimples and blemishes of all sizes. Some were/are so severe that I have what looks like the start of scarring on my jaw-line and chin. My friend had exactly the same experience as well as the suffocating sensation I’ve mentioned so I know it’s not just me.
I could not be more disappointed with this product and I honestly hope that the blemishes don’t scar. I’m honestly considering getting in touch with Garnier about this product and complaining because 1) it is in no way a “Miracle Skin Perfector”, 2) if I have lasting damage on my face due to the product and others have had similar experiences shouldn’t it be recalled?
I never say this but keep far, far away from this product. I 100% regret buying it and I’ve now got to spend time, nerves and more money to solve my current skin issues. I’m well aware that it’s won awards and that it’s the first BB Cream to do so but that can’t make up for my own experience and all I can do is tell you my honest opinion.
